Morgan's Senior Portraits at Hidden Rock Park | Richmond, VA Senior Photographer

There are some sessions that feel especially meaningful because they remind me just how quickly the years pass.

When I arrived for Morgan's session, we weren't just celebrating one graduation—we were celebrating two. Morgan was graduating from high school, and her little sister had just graduated from preschool. Seeing them together in their caps and gowns was a beautiful reminder that life's milestones often overlap in the sweetest ways.

Years ago, I photographed her little sister as a newborn. Being invited back to capture another chapter for this family is one of the greatest privileges of my job. Watching families grow through the years is something I never take for granted.

After a few graduation photos together, it was time to focus on Morgan.

When we talked about locations, Morgan wanted her senior portraits to reflect who she is. Since baseball has been such an important part of her life, and she also loves spending time outdoors, Hidden Rock Park was the perfect choice. We were able to capture portraits at the ball field before exploring the park's beautiful natural trails.

It was one of those classic Virginia summer evenings—hot and humid—but Morgan never complained. She embraced the experience, trusted the process, and the result was a gallery that felt genuine, confident, and completely true to her.

Why Location Matters for Senior Portraits

One of the questions I hear most often is:

"Where should we take senior portraits?"

My answer is almost always the same: choose a location that means something to you.

Beautiful scenery is wonderful, but the most meaningful senior portraits tell a story. Whether it's a baseball field, a favorite hiking trail, an urban downtown, or your family's farm, choosing a location that reflects your interests and personality creates images that feel timeless because they're authentic.

Years from now, you'll remember more than what you looked like. You'll remember who you were during this season of life.

Tips for Choosing Your Senior Portrait Location

Here are a few things to think about when planning your session:

  • Choose a location that reflects your hobbies, interests, or personality.

  • Don't worry about finding the "perfect" place. The best location is often one that has personal meaning.

  • Think about variety. Locations like Hidden Rock Park offer both open spaces and wooded trails, creating a diverse gallery without driving to multiple places.

  • If you're involved in a sport, music, theater, or another activity that's been a big part of your high school experience, consider incorporating it into your session.

Senior portraits should feel like you.

Congratulations, Morgan! Thank you for trusting me to capture such an exciting milestone. It was an honor to celebrate this season with you, and I can't wait to see where your next adventure takes you.
